Spending hundreds of billions of dollars to promote the build-out of intermittent, unreliable wind and solar would be a gigantic waste of resources. Instead, we should focus on replacing polluting thermal resources (i.e. coal and natural gas) with firm, high capacity factor, long-lived nuclear power plants, many of which could be built on existing power plant sites and would use existing transmission infrastructure.
