This has to be viewed as a rare calm moment in the constant tidal wave of fear mongering, authoritarianism plaguing "science". The West is decades into the careers of people who were taught oppression and grievance in the sciences coming out of the 1960s. What is to come is ever more burning down of the once great scientific institutions of the West at the hands of fools and ideologues. They just can't help themselves.

What other era or epoch was named as a reflection of its good or bad influence? This is ridiculous. It would seem that to establish the so called modern era as human dominated, would be logical, but surely not as a whipping boy! Nasty dinosaurs!

As a geologist, I take great comfort in this decision. Perhaps science will regain its footing. There may be hope yet...

I think your use of the word "scientism" is misplaced here. I'll leave that for you to ponder. But let me say, I strongly suspect your motives in writing this opinion, which I feel is complete hogwash.

I would have considered labelling the current age the Anthropocene as a flex. I guess other people see it differently.
