Two things can be true. The electricity powering China's EV / wind / solar dominance is three-fifths coal-fired, and all of those technologies will still significantly reduce global emissions from a lifecycle standpoint.

The points made in this piece are highly valid but my takeaway is slightly different: That yes the picture looks dire when doing intra-border GHG bean-counting but that this pales in comparison to the benefits of China's buildout when one views it with a lens large enough to capture resultant global scope-3 reductions.
