Let’s not add to the AI fluff. AI will certainly be useful for a lot of things, but a lot of the stuff mentioned in this article could be done with standard ERP systems and technology from the early 2000s. All that would be required is to bring the plants up to modern control standards instead of using INC systems from 1970…. That won’t stop the consultants bringing nonsensical white papers with techy sounding lingo- only engineers can do that.
Fair to point out that AI may improve efficiencies and there is no crystal ball. Skeptical that AI overall will reduce power demand - at best will help minimize it's impact.. The trajectory for humankind indicates more energy will be needed. With much of the world aspiring to a better life, increased energy consumption is a given barring some catastrophe. Let's at least hope AI will help with efficiency and reducing development times.
